Best beaches near Frigiliana: A curated guide for couples

One of the main reasons couples choose Frigiliana is the contrast: you sleep in the cool, quiet hills, but the Mediterranean is only a short drive away.

To make your choice easier, we’ve grouped our favourite spots by mood. Whether you are looking for a hidden romantic cove, a cultural setting under the Balcón de Europa, or a wild snorkeling adventure in Maro.

For quiet moments

Romantic Escapes

Carabeíllo Beach

The vibe: A hidden gem nestled between Burriana and the town center. Lush greenery cascades down the cliffs, creating a tropical, intimate feel.

Insider Tip: It feels like a private paradise. We often go here for a quiet afternoon swim just for two.

El Playazo

The vibe: Nerja’s longest, most spacious beach. It has a rustic charm and is perfect if you want to spread out away from the crowds.

Insider Tip: Our favourite picnic spot. Pack local cheese & olives, walk a little, and you’ll have your own slice of beach.

Wild & Protected

Nature & Snorkeling (Maro)

East of Nerja lies the Maro-Cerro Gordo Natural Area. These beaches are less developed, often pebbly, and famed for crystal-clear water.

Maro Beach

The vibe: Famous for its dramatic cliffs and waterfalls. The water here is often clearer than in town, making it the top spot for snorkeling and kayaking.

Note: Rent a kayak here. Paddling to the waterfalls hidden in the cliffs is an adventure you’ll never forget.

Cantarriján (Naturist)

The vibe: Located in a protected reserve. Known for its relaxed, clothing-optional atmosphere and excellent seafood restaurants.

Note: Don’t miss the fresh fish at the local chiringuito — this place feels like a true escape.

Classic Nerja

Culture & Comfort

Calahonda

The vibe: The most iconic small cove, tucked right under the Balcón de Europa. Framed by old fishermen’s cottages and history.

Tip: Go early (before 10am). The morning light on the white cottages and the calm water is magical.

Burriana Beach

The vibe: Wide, golden sand and lively. Perfect for a full beach day with showers, sunbeds, and the famous paella at Chiringuito AYO.

Tip: Great for a “date day”: morning swim, lazy lunch, then a walk.

After the beach

The best part of a beach day is often the return: shaking off the salt, driving up the hill, and letting the evening settle into the quiet of Frigiliana.
