A Story of Silk and Rebellion.

The roots of Frigiliana go back 3,000 years – from the Phoenicians to the Romans. But the character you feel today was defined by the Moors in the 9th century: the labyrinth of alleyways, the cul-de-sacs, the fortress "Hins Challana".

A Village in Transition: Once, this was a center of silk production. After the dramatic rebellion of 1569 at "El Peñón" and the shift under Christian rule, silk turned to sugar: "El Ingenio", the only traditional cane honey factory in Europe, still stands at the village entrance today.

This heritage lives on – not just in the stones, but in the famous Festival de las Tres Culturas, which brings the village's three historic roots (Christian, Moorish, Jewish) to life every August.
